Chairman’s Message
Songtsen Library is an independently functioning part of Drikung Kagyu Institute, which was founded by me. It is a non-political organization dedicated to research in the field of Tibetan and Himalayan Studies. The Library hosts a vast collection of (Tripitaka) as well as rare manuscripts from Dunhuang, and ancient city on the Silk Road. It is also home to one of the largest collections of audio recording of more than 10,000 teachings by the most eminent Tibetan Buddhist masters form the 1960s until the present day.
Besides collection and preserving these precious works, the library also conducts research and publishes on various subjects related to Tibetan and Himalayan studies. Moreover, it provides excellent modern accommodation for vising researchers, scholars, students and guests.
It is wonderful news that Songtsen Library now has received official recognition as a research center for Tibetan and Himalayan Studies by Hemawati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Srinagar, Uttarakhand.
I am confident that Songtsen Library will prove to be a very conducive place of study for students from India and abroad interested in Tibetan and Himalayan studies.
With my prayers for the success for this excellent endeavor,
His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Thinle Lhundup
